Walter & Evelyn founded the company in 1956 when he was 27. At that time the company was named Walter Thielemann Construction. There have been several name changes during the years, but the company is now known as Thielemann Construction Co., L.P.
At the age of 18, he was drafted into the armed forces. After his service there, he returned to Brenham to pursue an Associate of Arts degree from Blinn College. They ran the company themselves until their son, Arlen, began working with them and then eventually took over as President. At the age of 83 and 80, they are both still very active in the business on a daily basis. Walter regularly meets with clients, supervising and running their jobs. Evelyn continues to help out with daily and weekly administrative responsibilities.
Walter & Evelyn have resided in Brenham and the Washington County area their entire lives. They enjoy supporting local groups such as Brenham Hospice and The Boys and Girls Club. They have been and continue to be active, faithful members of their local church, St. John's Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. Walter & Evelyn have 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. With all those grandkids comes a lot of activities, so they are constantly busy and faithfully attend as many soccer, T-ball, football, and basketball games as they can.
Evelyn has been an avid bowler for years and still participates in local leaques and tournament play. She also loves working in her yard, traveling, and entertaining her grandchildren. To say that Walter is an avid hunter is probably an understatement. Evelyn will attest to the fact that he has not ever missed his annual hunting trip to the hill country in over 50 years! He also enjoys spending time on his farm and working his cattle.
